Design and Exterior of the Citroën Relay

The front end of the van has been restyled with a new bumper, colour-matched radiator grille, and redesigned LED headlamps that are said to be 30% more efficient than the halogen units they replace. 

You’ll also notice that the lower section of the bumper has been reinforced to improve impact protection, which is exactly the kind of practical detail that working van drivers will appreciate. The wing mirrors have also been reshaped to improve aerodynamic efficiency.

The Relay van is available in four lengths - L1, L2, L3, and L4 - and three roof heights, giving business owners a wide range of body options to choose from. 

Citroën Relay Cab Interior and Technology

Much like the outside of the van, the Relay’s inside has had a significant upgrade. The dashboard has been redesigned to offer better ergonomics and a more welcoming working environment. 

Standard specification includes a 5-inch DAB Radio with Bluetooth, USB socket, and steering wheel-mounted controls. Manual air conditioning is included as standard, along with rear parking sensors and Connected Services.

Optional Extras

An optional 10-inch HD touchscreen is also available, bringing 3D connected navigation, wireless smartphone replication, and a digital interior rear-view mirror connected to a rear camera. An optional 7-inch digital instrument cluster allows drivers to configure the display around the data most relevant to them.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility is available on higher specification builds, while an optional wireless smartphone charging pad and a 230V power socket in the dashboard (ideal for laptops, tablets, and battery packs) can be added for those who spend long periods in their van.

Cabin Storage

The storage in the cab has been well thought through, with a dashboard-mounted document clip, glovebox, and multiple compartments throughout the cabin keeping essentials within easy reach. 

Driver Comfort

Drivers will appreciate a height-adjustable seat with lumbar support and an armrest. An electric parking brake replaces the conventional handbrake to free up space and make life easier in stop-start work.

Diesel Engine Options for the Citroën Relay

The Citroën Relay diesel range is powered by a 2.2-litre BlueHDi turbodiesel engine available in two power outputs: 140bhp and 180bhp. 

The 140bhp version is offered with either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic gearbox. It’s the first time an automatic has been available on the Relay van and proves a very welcome addition. The 180bhp variant is automatic only, making it a strong-performing option for those running the heaviest body configurations.

A 90-litre fuel tank means the most efficient manual variants can cover over 800 miles between fill-ups. A braked towing capacity of up to 3,000kg on the larger L3 and L4 variants makes the Relay a capable van for businesses that regularly tow plant or trailers.

Load Space and Dimensions of the Citroën Relay

Renowned for its load-carrying capacity, the Citroën Relay’s panel van load volumes range from 8m³ on the smallest L1H1 configuration up to 17m³ on the largest L4H3 variant. 

The internal width between the wheel arches is 1,422mm and the maximum cargo width between the panels is 1,870mm - among the best in class. Rear door heights reach 2,030mm on H3 versions, making loading tall items easy and straightforward.

Panel Van Loading Details

The rear hinged doors of the Citroën Relay van open to either 96° or 180° as standard, with a 270° opening option available as an extra. This additional option enables the doors to be held flat against the sides of the van for fully clear rear access. 

Two sliding side doors are fitted as standard, and an optional pneumatic rear suspension system means you can lower or raise the load sill height by 60 to 70mm. This add-on is designed to make loading and unloading heavy items less physically demanding. 

Plus, a full steel bulkhead separates the cab from the cargo area as standard across the range.

The Citroën Relay van is available to buy in a single, well-equipped specification. Standard equipment includes manual air conditioning, a 5-inch DAB Radio with Bluetooth and USB, rear parking sensors, cruise control with speed limiter, and a dual passenger bench seat.
